Artist's Description
Belly Dancers, The State Fair of Texas, 2014. Photograph by Greg Kopriva.
There are many movements characteristic of the belly dance, including Aisha Bellydance, exhibiting percussive movements - Staccato movements, most commonly of the hips, which can be used to punctuate the music or accent a beat. Typical movements in this group include hip drops, vertical hip rocks, outwards hip hits, hip lifts and hip twists. There are also fluid movements - Flowing, sinuous movements in which the body is in continuous motion, which may be used to interpret melodic lines and lyrical sections in the music, or modulated to express complex instrumental improvisations, as well as being performed in a rhythmic manner. About Greg Kopriva
I have been a photographer for many years, it basically started when I was about 12, taking snaps around the house with a Brownie. I studied Photography at East Texas State University, now Texas A&M-Commerce, and have been working professionally ever since. My main method of earning a living is commercial photography, and I also teach a variety of age and skill levels. The images shown here reflect my love of the craft, mostly things that I do in my spare time. I shot film when we didn't have computers and Photoshop, so it's very important for me to get the best possible image out of the camera with little manipulation. I hope you enjoy this body of work, and thank you for visiting. GK **Buy Photographic Prints by Greg Kopriva,...

I like that I can see the movement of their costumes as they dance. The graceful swish of their skirts is lovely. The selective black and white makes these women the stars of the stage.
