This is a set of pastels is owned by my artist wife, Sally Doyle-Kopriva. You can tell by the look of the set that this collection was acquired and used over the span of many years.
A pastel consists of pure powdered pigment and binder in a stick. It's basically the same pigment that is used in all art mediums. In appearance, it's sort of a cross between a stick of chalk and a crayon. Soft pastels have less binder and more pigment. They normally have a rounded shape. Hard pastels are usually rectangular and have more binder to keep the stick together. Each has different qualities and creates different effects. Soft pastels are easy to smudge and blend, whereas hard pastels are good for creating tight, precise details. When handled correctly, pastels are permanent and can last just as long as any other medium. Pastels never crack, yellow or darken over time. When properly framed and securely hung, the particles will stay fixed in place for centuries.

I have been a photographer for many years, it basically started when I was about 12, taking snaps around the house with a Brownie. I studied Photography at East Texas State University, now Texas A&M-Commerce, and have been working professionally ever since. My main method of earning a living is commercial photography, and I also teach a variety of age and skill levels. The images shown here reflect my love of the craft, mostly things that I do in my spare time. I shot film when we didn't have computers and Photoshop, so it's very important for me to get the best possible image out of the camera with little manipulation. I hope you enjoy this body of work, and thank you for visiting. GK **Buy Photographic Prints by Greg Kopriva,...
